American Gods by Neil Gaiman is a novel that explores the relationship between technology and religion, and how they have evolved over time. The story follows Shadow, a man who becomes embroiled in a conflict between ancient gods and new deities born from modern technology. As he navigates this strange world, he must confront his own beliefs and values, and make difficult choices that will determine the fate of humanity. The book begins with the arrival of immigrants in America, who brought their beliefs and traditions with them. Over time, these beliefs and traditions evolved into gods, each vying for power and worship. However, with the rise of technology, these gods began to fade away, replaced by new deities such as Media, the god of television, and Mr. Whispers, the god of the internet. As the story progresses, Shadow learns about the war between the old and new gods, and how they are all connected to human beliefs and desires. He also discovers that he has a special role to play in this conflict, and must choose which side to support.
