The Feminist Bookstore Movement, Lesbian Antiracism, and Feminist Accountability In the 1970s and 1980s, over one hundred feminist bookstores emerged as a vital part of the transnational network that shaped some of the most complex conversations within feminism. These bookstores, mostly led by lesbians and including women of color, were driven by a commitment to develop theories and practices of lesbian antiracism and feminist accountability. They measured their success not by profit, but by the impact they had on people's lives and the world at large. The Feminist Bookstore Movement: Lesbian Antiracism and Feminist Accountability, written by Kristen Hogan, tells the story of these bookstores and their significance in shaping contemporary queer antiracist feminist activism and theory. At the heart of this movement were bookwomen like those found in BookWoman in Austin, the Toronto Women's Bookstore, and Old Wives' Tales in San Francisco. These women changed lives and the world through their work, creating a legacy that continues to inspire and inform contemporary feminist activists and theorists. Through their efforts, they developed a vocabulary, strategy, and legacy for thinking through today's feminisms.
Feminist Bookstore Movement: sbian Antiracism and Feminist Accountability,
