Text and Death: An Empirical Study of Obituaries in German-Speaking Switzerland Introduction In this study, we aim to contribute to the empirical research on text types by examining obituaries from daily newspapers in German-speaking Switzerland using a handlungstheoretically grounded model that is well-suited for detailed descriptions of text types and large text quantities. After providing an overview of the research landscape in text type linguistics and discussing the previous scientific exploration of the subject "obituary" in the first part of the book, we will theoretically justify and explain our descriptive model in the second part. Based on this foundation, we will conduct an empirical text analysis in the third part, focusing on the situational handling conditions, such as the newspaper-specific environment, price lists, nonverbal cues, and symbols, the structure and sequence of text-type-specific actions, and the language implementation of individual actions.
