The Only Black Girls in Town In the charming coastal town of Beach Haven, there lived only two black girls, Alberta and her best friend Laramie. For years, Alberta had been the only black girl in town, and despite having Laramie as her closest friend, there were certain things even Laramie couldn't understand. The arrival of a new family at the local bed and breakfast brought excitement to Alberta, as they were the first black family to move into the town. She was thrilled to have a new friend in Edie, the 12-year-old daughter of the family, who shared her love for the beach and surfing. However, Edie struggled to adjust to the small-town life, missing her hometown of Brooklyn and finding it difficult to fit in. One day, while exploring Edie's attic, the girls stumbled upon an old box of journals belonging to Edie's great-grandmother. As they began reading through the journals, they uncovered shocking and painful secrets about the town's history that challenged their understanding of their seemingly idyllic community.
