The book is about the life of Leo Tolstoy, one of the most important figures of world literature, from his childhood until his death, through his personal memories, letters and notes written between 1828 and 1863. Leo Tolstoy was born on September 9, 1828, in Yasnaya Polyana, a small village in the province of Tula, Russia. He was the youngest of four children of Countess Natalia Andreevna Tolstaya and Count Sergei Tolstoy. His family was part of the Russian nobility and had a large estate where they lived. From an early age, Tolstoy showed a great interest in reading and writing, and he spent much of his time alone, lost in his thoughts and imagination. As a child, Tolstoy was educated at home by private tutors and later attended school in Moscow. He was a very intelligent boy and quickly became fluent in several languages, including Russian, French, German, and English. He also developed a passion for history, philosophy, and literature, which would shape his future as a writer. In 18447, Tolstoy entered the University of Kazan, where he studied law and philosophy.
