Book Description: In Italy, the theme of cultural heritage has undergone a discontinuous and laborious evolution, limiting the recognition of the country's cultural and environmental resources. However, by embracing the concept of cultural districts, it is possible to address these criticisms with greater success. Cultural districts represent a potential for development through the mobilization and interaction of a diverse range of actors present in the territory, including public organizations, entrepreneurs, and professionals. By integrating their respective functions and competencies, they can share strategies for valuing the territory's resources and generating new visions of economic and social development. Since 2005, the Cariplo Foundation has initiated and promoted a project aimed at identifying and creating cultural districts throughout Lombardy. This project has involved experts in economics, administrative law, and conservation of historical architecture, who have collaborated with the territories involved. This book provides a critical account of the early phases of this experience and proposes an innovative model of public intervention centered on the figure of the cultural district.
