Michael D. Carrasco, is a collection of texts that reflects the history of the Maya civilization from the Spanish conquest to the present day. The book explores how the Maya have adapted their culture and traditions to the changing political, social, and economic conditions of the region. The book is divided into four parts: 1) Colonial Era, 2) Nineteenth Century, 3) Twentieth Century, and 4) Contemporary Period. Each part presents a different aspect of Maya literature and its evolution over time. Part one focuses on the colonial era, discussing how the arrival of the Spanish led to the decline of traditional Maya culture and the rise of Christianity. Part two examines the nineteenth century, when the Maya began to resist Spanish rule and seek independence. Part three looks at the twentieth century, when the Maya faced challenges such as urbanization and modernization. Finally, part four explores the contemporary period, where the Maya continue to adapt to new technologies and globalization. Throughout the book, Carrasco provides insights into the ways in which Maya literature has been shaped by historical events and cultural exchange.
