Responding to Human Trafficking: Dispossession, Colonial Violence, and Resistance among Indigenous and Racialized Women Introduction: Human trafficking is a growing concern globally, and Canada is no exception. However, the current approaches to addressing this issue are often criticized for their limitations and potential harm. This book, "Responding to Human Trafficking is the first to critically examine the responses to human trafficking in Canada, challenging the separation of debates into international versus domestic issues. It explores how antitrafficking policies reflect and reinforce the settler-colonial nation-building project of Canada, creating additional harms for migrant and Indigenous women. The author draws upon theories of post-colonialism, Indigenous feminist thought, and interviews with people in counter-trafficking employment across Western Canada to provide a new framework for critical analyses of anti-trafficking and other rights-based and anti-violence interventions. Chapter 1: The Settler-Colonial Roots of Human Trafficking The chapter begins by highlighting the historical context of human trafficking in Canada, tracing its roots back to the colonial era.
Responsing to Human Trafficking: Dispossession, Colonial Violence, and Resistance among Indigenous and Racialized Women Introduction: Human Trafficking is a growing concern global, and Canada is not exception.
Responsing to Human Trafficking: Dispossession, Colonial Violence, and Resistance among Indigenous and Racialized Women Introduction: Human Trafficking is a growing concern global, and Canada is not exception.
