Museum of Human Beings: A Novel In this captivating novel, we follow the journey of Jean-Baptiste Charbonneau, the youngest member of the Lewis and Clark expedition, as he navigates the complexities of identity, culture, and belonging in the early 19th century. Born to Sacagawea, a Shoshone woman, and William Clark, a white explorer, Baptiste is caught between two worlds, neither fully accepted by one or the other. As a child, he is raised by Clark as his foster son, and later, when he comes of age, he attracts the attention of Duke Paul of Wurttemberg, who sees potential in the young man and offers to educate him as a concert pianist. Baptiste's journey takes him from the vast plains of the American West to the grand courts of Europe, where he is exhibited as a half-gentleman, half-animal curiosity. However, as he struggles to find his place in the world, he ultimately rejects the expectations of both cultures and sets out on an epic quest to discover his true identity.
