This book aims to provide evidence-based knowledge on the social and economic impacts of labor migration, specifically focusing on the challenges and opportunities faced by Ethiopian migrants in the Gulf and South Africa. The study seeks to understand the push and pull factors that drive migration, the successes and failures of policies and institutions, and the growing problem of illegal migration. Chapter 1: Push Factors and Migration Push factors refer to the reasons why individuals leave their home countries in search of better opportunities. In the case of Ethiopian migrants, economic developmental problems such as lack of employment opportunities and wage differentials are the major push factors that force them to migrate to other countries. The chapter explores these push factors in detail, highlighting the economic and social challenges faced by Ethiopian migrants.
